SKINCARE ROUTINE

by - January 18, 2017

Hello lovelies and welcome to my blog post all about skincare! This should be a fairly short post as my skincare is quite minimal when compared to some elaborate routines I've seen! I do tend to change my skincare products and routine up regularly as after a while, my skin gets bored of the same products, but I've been using these same products for just over a month and a half now (some for much longer!) and I'm still loving the combination I've got!

Without further ado, let's get into it!

In order of use, the first product I have is a scrub, and it's actually a body scrub. I know, I can already hear some of you giving me a good telling off for using a body scrub on my delicate little face, however because my skin is very dry, the scrubs manufactured especially to use on the face just aren't harsh enough to remove any of my dead skin.

I did take a big risk using the Soap & Glory Scrub of Your Life (£7 for 200ml, Boots) and I was sure I would regret it, probably instantly, but I was at the end of my tether and used it anyway! I am so glad that I did, this product alone has massively improved the condition of my skin and the overall look of my makeup. With this, a little goes a long way. I've been using this for just over a month and a half, and I would estimate that it's still three-quarters full, if not more. I do have a full-size version waiting in the wings, eagerly anticipating its time, but I wanted to try the smaller bottle first, because if I didn't like it, it wasn't that much of a waste. As with every single Soap & Glory product ever made in the history of the Earth, it smells beautiful, which was another thing I was slightly concerned about with regards to putting it on my face, but again, the perfumed gel does not irritate my skin in the slightest.

The next product I use in my routine is the Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub (£5.50, Lush).

To be honest, I just love Lush products in general. I've yet to find a Lush product that I love and their skincare range is out of this world - I could probably start my own Lush shop with all of the empty containers I've gone through over the years. However, this lip scrub stands out to me because it's everything I want out of a lip scrub. It gets the job done and leaves my lips feeling smooth and hydrated, and it tastes delicious too - who doesn't love pure sugar?! Another thing that I like about this scrub is it is self-preserving and has a long expiration date of 14 months. This is a product that I've been using for yonks.

After all of my scrubbing as out of the way, I use the Clinique Liquid Facial Soap Extra Mild (£16.50, Clinique).

You may have heard about Clinique's 3-step skincare system. I very kindly received the 3-Step Introduction Kit Skin Type 1 (£20 - includes minis of the three Clinique products mentioned throughout this post, Clinique) as a present for my 22nd birthday off my sister. She explained to me that they do different 'skin types' - 1 to 4. Skin Type 1 is dry/very dry, Type 2 is dry combination, Type 3 is combination oily and Type 4 is oily (you can read more about it here).
When using this Type 1 cleanser, it initially felt like it wasn't doing anything for my skin, and during the first use, I was convinced none of the product went on my face, as I couldn't feel anything. However, I promise that it does! The texture of the cleanser itself is so fine and almost watery that it's difficult to feel it on damp skin, but it is definitely there. Even before using the other two products, it makes a huge difference to the appearance and wellbeing of my skin.

Following the cleanser is the Clinique Clarifying Lotion (£16.50, Clinique).

When I was younger and got told that I needed to make sure to include toner in my skincare routine, I always rolled my eyes and told people that I believed it to be a money-making scam, 'It's just fancy water!' Oh, how wrong I was. After a few years I decided to do some much-needed research and couldn't believe that I'd been depriving myself of toner for such a long time. Basically, toner is important mainly because our skin is naturally acidic and when you cleanse your face, it disturbs the pH balance because cleanser has an alkaline nature, so it strips the natural acid your skin produces. Applying cleanser on your face, using a cotton pad, helps to restore the natural pH balance of your skin quickly. It's also good at getting the excess dirt off your face - even after I've taken all my makeup off until the cotton pad doesn't show anymore makeup AND I've cleansed, when I use my toner all over my face and I look at the cotton pad, there's still a tiny bit of foundation on there! So if you've learned anything today, it's that you need a toner suited to your skin, in your life!

The last product in the 3-step skincare system is the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion+ (£18, Clinique)

This is definitely one that does what is says on the bottle - it certainly is dramatically different! It hydrates as if I'm stripping my skin down and throwing pure H2O all over it; very well indeed! It makes my skin look radiant and glowing, and gives me enough confidence to actually go without makeup some days. When I do wear makeup, my foundation goes over this beautifully and has a gorgeous finish. This is another product where a small amount goes a long way. I'm a big believer of starting small and top up if needed, but my 'small start' is enough to cover my entire face and neck... this truly is a game changer!

At the end of the day, when enough is enough, I take my makeup off with my trusty Garnier Skin Active Oil-Infused Micellar Cleansing Water (currently on offer for £3.99, Boots), although I have previously used the pink one too, and I love that equally.

After hearing horror stories about using makeup wipes to remove makeup with, I was recommended this little gem by a friend. It's the best swap I've ever made in the entirety of my life! This stuff actually lifts the makeup and removes rather than embedding it deeper into your skin. And it's also great because it gets off the really heavy-duty waterproof makeup, like Benefit's They're Real mascara. Hands up who had to buy the makeup remover by Benefit to remove the mascara that's made of steel? Yep, me too. Back in the days of makeup wipes, anyway. Now I don't need to waste my money, because this magical potion managed to get into the particles and break them down, allowing me to easily remove the mascara. Win, win! This is the other product that I've been using for what feels like forever.

I really hope you enjoyed this post about the products that are in my skincare routine. I'd love to know your favourite skincare products in the comments!
